Emulating the PSX...
To emulate the PSX I'm using ePSXe1.5.2 as ePSXe1.6.0 is having more bugs than version 1.5.2, strangely enough. I suggest U use it as well, if U R having trouble locating ePSXe1.5.2, the BIOS-files or the plug-ins don't hesitate to ask me about it and I will get them to U. To keep it easy while I'm creating this thread I will assume U already have all of that.
I am aware of the fact that some of the plug-ins I'm using R a little outdated, U don't have to point me to this, I already know. U can get the latest plug-ins from here http://ngemu.com/psx .
The reason why I'm using these plug-ins is because not everyone has a high end system, I myself have a AMD Duron 1600MHz, 512MB RAM and a 64MB GFX card and for me it works fine like this, anyone with a PC similar to mine can do this with out problems. If U have a better PC U might get a improved performance but there won't be much differences noticable.
Having said all of that, let's emulate the PSX.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Extract ePSXe, the BIOS and the plug-ins.
Copy or move the BIOS-files (all of them) into the BIOS-folder in the ePSXe-folder.
Copy or move the plug-ins (all of them) into the plug-in folder in the ePSXe folder.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now we R ready to set up ePSXe's configuration.
It's easier to look at my screenies and follow from there I guess.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Start up ePSXe and select "config", go to "BIOS", it should automatically open the BIOS-folder inside the ePSXe-folder, if not, set the path. Select the BIOS called "SCPH1001" and click "OK".
The SCPH1001 BIOS works with European, USA and Japanese ISOz, anyone who's trying to tell U it doesn't work like that obviously never tried it, trust me, it will work.
Close ePSXe so it saves the BIOS configuration.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Time to add a little sound.
Start up ePSXe again, go to "config", select "sound", it should automatically open the plug-in folder inside the ePSXe folder, if not, set up the path. Select the Eternal SPU Plugin 1.41 plug-in, check "Enable XA sound" (this is to make sure U have sound in the FMV's), no further configuration needed, click "OK".
Close ePSXe so it saves the sound configuration.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Time for some nice graphics now, there's 3 kinds of Games on the PSX, 2D Games, 3D Games and 2D/3D Hybrid Games. We will start off with the 3D Games, this configuration will also work with the 2D/3D Hybrid Games.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Start up ePSXe, go to "Config", select "Video", it should automatically open the plug-in folder inside the ePSXe folder, if not, set the path. Select Pete's OpenGL Driver 1.75 and click "configure". This plug-in will give U nice and smooth graphics.
Now set it up like it is shown in the following picture, U do not have to check the "Show FPS display on startup", I'm using it to see if my FPS R alright, check it if U R interested in such a thing, if not, don't check.
If Ur desktop resolution isn't 800x600 U select another one, this should be obvious.
Select "OK" and close ePSXe so it saves the video configuration.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Start ePSXe again, go to "Options", select "Country" and choose "Autoselect", this way ePSXe automatically detects the region the ISO is for (I believe it does this anyway but let's be sure), U don't have to close ePSXe now in order to make it save this.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now we've got a BIOS, sound, video, what R we missing here?? Ofcourse, controls.
Go to "Config", select "Game pad" and choose "Pad 1" (set up the 2nd controller as well if U want to play a 2Player Game).
Now configure Ur controls in a way U see fit, don't bother with setting up the two Analog sticks, U really don't have to, set it up according to the following screenie.
Click "oke" once U R done, U don't have to close ePSXe in order to make it save Ur control configuration.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
All set, time to play a 3D Game, I assume U already have this.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Start up ePSXe again, go to "File", select "Run ISO", go to the folder the ISO of the Game U want to play is in, ePSXe can only read .BIN. ISO or .IMG files, any others will not work because they won't be detected.
Don't bother with the .CUE files, U only need them if U want to burn them to CD to play them on a real PSX.
Wait for ePSXe to load the Game, this won't take long but during the load up it might make Ur screen look a little weird. Nothing to worry about, just wait until it's loaded and...
Voila, U now run a 3D or a 2D/3D Hybrid PSX Game on Ur PC.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now to run a 2D PSX Game on Ur PC.
Start up ePSXe, go to "Config", select "Video" and choose the P.E.Op.S. Soft Driver 1.17 plug-in, configure it according to the following screenie.
If Ur desktop resolution isn't 800x600 U select another one, this should be obvious.
Click "oke" and close ePSXe so it saves Ur video configuration.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Time to run a 2D PSX Game, I assume U already have this.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Start up ePSXe again, go to "File", select "Run ISO", go to the folder the ISO of the Game U want to play is in.
Wait for the Game to load and...
Voila, U now run a 2D PSX Game on Ur PC.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
That's all, remember to change the two video plug-ins when U want to play 2D or 3D Games, enjoy ...
